Chapter 248: धनुर्वेदः (Dhanurveda — Science of War and Archery Discipline)
भगवान अग्नी धनुर्वेदाची सुरुवात करून युद्धविद्येला ‘चतुष्पादी’ म्हणतात—रथ, गज, अश्व व पायदळ—आणि वैदिक शिक्षापद्धतीने ती ‘पंचविध’ आहे असे सांगतात: प्रक्षेप्य (सोडून मारायची), हाताने फेकायची, यंत्राने सोडायची, न सोडता वापरायची शस्त्रे, आणि निःशस्त्र बाहुयुद्ध. पुढे शस्त्र–अस्त्रभेद व सरळ बनाम मायावी (छल) प्रयोग स्पष्ट करून यंत्रमुक्त व पाणिमुक्त इत्यादी प्रकारांची नावे देतात. नंतर शिस्तीचा भाग येतो—कवचादी संरक्षणसज्जता, धनुष्यकेंद्रित व शूलकेंद्रित क्रमबद्ध लढाया, तसेच शिक्षाक्रम: ब्राह्मण गुरु होऊन क्षत्रिय/वैश्यांना शिकवावा; शूद्रालाही अभ्यास, प्रशिक्षण व राजसेवेतील सहाय्यक कार्याने पात्रता मिळू शकते. समपद, वैशाख, मंडल, आलीढ, प्रत्यालीढ, विकट, संपुट अशा स्थिती-मानांचे मोजमाप आणि धनुर्विद्येची प्रक्रिया—नमस्कार, प्रत्यंचा चढवताना अवकाश, नाभी/कटी स्थापन, नेत्र–कर्णरेषेने लक्ष्य, बोटांची पकड, ओढ-छोड, फॉलो-थ्रू व कौशल्य-मूल्यांकन—सविस्तर दिली आहे. बाण व धनुष्याची प्रमाणे सांगून हेच तत्त्व अश्व, रथ व गज-युद्धातही लागू करून युद्धकला धर्मनियंत्रित साधना आहे असे प्रतिपादन केले आहे।
