Definition of Ardha-sama (Half-equal) Metres (अर्धसमनिरूपणम्)
भगवान अग्नी वसिष्ठांना छंदःशास्त्रात विषम छंदांपासून पुढे नेऊन अर्धसम (हाफ-इक्वल) छंदांचे वर्गीकरण सांगतात. प्रारंभी या वर्गातील उपचित्रक, ससमाना, भोजभागा, द्रुतमध्या, भगागथा, उनना आणि जया अशी छंदनावे देऊन, त्यांची ओळख व रचना करण्यासाठी गण-क्रम आणि नामांकित लय/ताल-रचना स्पष्ट केल्या आहेत. पुढे आख्यानिका छंदप्रकार व त्यांचे विपरीत (उलटे) प्रकार वेगळे करून राजसा, गोगथा, द्रोण, केतुमती, जगागथा, ततजगागथा इत्यादी उदाहरणे दिली आहेत; तसेच धरणिवल्लभा, अपराक्रम, पुष्पिता अशी अतिरिक्त नामरूपेही येतात. शेवटी समवृत्ताची रचना ठराविक गण-क्रम व मात्रा-मोजणी (नाग एकके) यांसह दाखवून त्याचा उलटा प्रकार ‘खञ्जा’ म्हणून सांगितला आहे; त्यामुळे छंदविद्या शिस्तबद्ध वाणी व धर्मसंस्कृतीशी निगडित, अचूक व पुनरुत्पाद्य शास्त्र म्हणून प्रतिपादित होते।
