Atharvashiras

य इदमथर्वशिरो ब्राह्मणोऽधीते अश्रोत्रियः श्रोत्रियो भवति अनुपनीत उपनीतो भवति ।

सोऽग्निपूतो भवति स वायुपूतो भवति स सूर्यपूतो भवति स सर्वैर्देवैर्ज्ञातो भवति स सर्वैर्वेदैरनुध्यातो भवति ।

स सर्वेषु तीर्थेषु स्नातो भवति तेन सर्वैः क्रतुभिरिष्टं भवति ।

गायत्र्याः षष्टिसहस्राणि जप्तानि भवन्ति इतिहासपुराणानां रुद्राणां शतसहस्राणि जप्तानि भवन्ति ।

प्रणवानामयुतं जप्तं भवति ।

स चक्षुषः पङ्क्तिं पुनाति ।

आ सप्तमात्पुरुषयुगान्पुनातीत्याह भगवानथर्वशिरः ।

सकृज्जप्त्वैव शुचिः स पूतः कर्मण्यो भवति ।

द्वितीयं जप्त्वा गणाधिपत्यमवाप्नोति ।

तृतीयं जप्त्वैवमेवानुप्रविशत्यों सत्यम् ॐ सत्यम् ॐ सत्यम् ॥७॥

ya idam atharvaśiro brāhmaṇo’dhīte aśrotriyaḥ śrotriyo bhavati anupānīta upānīto bhavati |

so’gnipūto bhavati sa vāyupūto bhavati sa sūryapūto bhavati sa sarvair devair jñāto bhavati sa sarvair vedair anudhyāto bhavati |

sa sarveṣu tīrtheṣu snāto bhavati tena sarvaiḥ kratubhir iṣṭaṃ bhavati |

gāyatryāḥ ṣaṣṭi-sahasrāṇi japtāni bhavanti itihāsa-purāṇānāṃ rudrāṇāṃ śata-sahasrāṇi japtāni bhavanti |

praṇavānām ayutaṃ japtaṃ bhavati |

sa cakṣuṣaḥ paṅktiṃ punāti |

ā saptamāt puruṣa-yugān punātīty āha bhagavān atharvaśiraḥ |

sakṛj japtvaiva śuciḥ sa pūtaḥ karmaṇyo bhavati |

dvitīyaṃ japtvā gaṇādhipatyam avāpnoti |

tṛtīyaṃ japtvaivam evānupraviśati oṃ satyam oṃ satyam oṃ satyam ||7||

ഒരു ബ്രാഹ്മണൻ ഈ അഥർവശിരസ് പഠിച്ചാൽ—ശ്രോത്രിയനല്ലെങ്കിലും ശ്രോത്രിയനാകുന്നു; ഉപനയനം ലഭിക്കാത്തവനാണെങ്കിലും ഉപനീതനാകുന്നു. അവൻ അഗ്നിയാൽ ശുദ്ധനാകുന്നു; വായുവാൽ ശുദ്ധനാകുന്നു; സൂര്യനാൽ ശുദ്ധനാകുന്നു. സർവ്വദേവന്മാർ അവനെ അറിയുന്നു; സർവ്വവേദങ്ങൾ അവനെ അനുധ്യാനിക്കുന്നു. അവൻ എല്ലാ തീർത്ഥങ്ങളിലും സ്നാനം ചെയ്തവനുപോലെ ആകുന്നു; അവനാൽ എല്ലാ ക്രതുക്കളും ഇഷ്ടമായതുപോലെ ഫലിക്കുന്നു. അവനു ഗായത്രിയുടെ അറുപതിനായിരം ജപഫലം ലഭിക്കുന്നു; ഇതിഹാസ-പുരാണങ്ങളിലെ രുദ്രങ്ങളുടെ ലക്ഷജപഫലവും ലഭിക്കുന്നു. പ്രണവങ്ങളുടെ പത്തായിരം ജപഫലവും ലഭിക്കുന്നു. അവൻ തന്റെ ദൃഷ്ടിയുടെ പംക്തി (വംശപരമ്പര) ശുദ്ധീകരിക്കുന്നു. ഭഗവാൻ അഥർവശിരസ് പറയുന്നു: അവൻ ഏഴാം തലമുറവരെ പുരുഷയുഗങ്ങളെ ശുദ്ധീകരിക്കുന്നു. ഒരിക്കൽ ജപിച്ചാൽ തന്നെ അവൻ ശുചിയാകുന്നു—പൂതനായി കർമ്മയോഗ്യനാകുന്നു. രണ്ടാം പ്രാവശ്യം ജപിച്ചാൽ ഗണാധിപത്യം പ്രാപിക്കുന്നു. മൂന്നാം പ്രാവശ്യം ജപിച്ചാൽ ആ സത്യത്തിൽ പ്രവേശിക്കുന്നു—‘ഓം സത്യം, ഓം സത്യം, ഓം സത്യം’.

He who, being a brāhmaṇa, studies this Atharvaśiras—though not a śrotriya, becomes a śrotriya; though not initiated, becomes initiated. He becomes purified by fire; he becomes purified by wind; he becomes purified by the sun. He becomes known by all the gods; he is contemplated by all the Vedas. He becomes as one who has bathed in all sacred fords; by him all sacrifices are as though offered. (For him) sixty thousand recitations of the Gāyatrī have been performed; a hundred thousand recitations of the Rudras of the Itihāsa and Purāṇa have been performed. Ten thousand recitations of the praṇavas have been performed. He purifies the line (succession) of his eyesight (i.e., his lineage through vision). He purifies up to the seventh generation of persons—thus says the venerable Atharvaśiras. By reciting it once, he becomes pure—purified and fit for rites. Having recited it a second time, he attains lordship over the gaṇas. Having recited it a third time, he enters accordingly (into that truth): ‘Oṃ—Truth; Oṃ—Truth; Oṃ—Truth.’
