कथमुद्वहनार्थी च येनानंगः कृत स्मरः । अत्यासन्नेचातिदूरे आढ्ये धनविवर्जिते । वृत्तिहीने च मूर्खे च कन्यादानं न शस्यते

അനംഗനായ സ്മരനെ (കാമദേവനെ) ദഹിപ്പിച്ചവനോട് വിവാഹം ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നത് എങ്ങനെ? കൂടാതെ അതിനികടമോ അതിദൂരമോ, ധനവാനോ ധനഹീനനോ, ഉപജീവനമില്ലാത്തവനോ മൂഢനോ—ഇവർക്കു കന്യാദാനം പ്രശംസനീയമല്ല.
