तार्यते च नदीं घोरां पूयशोणितवाहिनीम् । नदीं वैतरणीं नाम केशशैवलशाद्वलाम्
tāryate ca nadīṃ ghorāṃ pūyaśoṇitavāhinīm | nadīṃ vaitaraṇīṃ nāma keśaśaivalaśādvalām
പിന്നീട് പുഴുവും രക്തവും ഒഴുകുന്ന ഭയാനക നദി കടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു—‘വൈതരണി’ എന്ന നദി—അതിന്റെ തീരങ്ങൾ മുടി, ശൈവലം, ഒട്ടുന്ന പുല്ല് എന്നിവകൊണ്ട് നിറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു।
