Vyāsa
Tirtha: Aruṇācala (requested) / Naimiṣāraṇya (frame)
Type: kshetra
Listener: Sūta
Scene: Forest hermitage of Naimiṣa: sages seated in a circle around Sūta; Vyāsa is named as speaker; atmosphere of inquiry as they request Aruṇācala-māhātmya.
Reverent listening (śravaṇa) to a sacred site’s māhātmya is presented as a dharmic doorway into its spiritual power and merit.
Aruṇācala (Arunachala), a celebrated Śaiva kṣetra whose greatness is about to be narrated.
No specific rite is prescribed here; the verse emphasizes śravaṇa—seeking to hear the māhātmya from an authoritative narrator (Sūta).
