vārāṇasyāṃ mahādevaḥ prathamaṃ tīrthamucyate | taduttare mahākūpaḥ sārasvatapadapradaḥ

വാരണാസിയിൽ ‘മഹാദേവ’ എന്ന തീർത്ഥം പ്രഥമമെന്നു പ്രസിദ്ധം. അതിന്റെ വടക്കായി ‘മഹാകൂപം’ ഉണ്ടു; അത് സരസ്വതീപദം, വിദ്യാ-വാക്‌സിദ്ധി എന്നിവ നൽകുന്നു.
