ഉപനയനം കഴിഞ്ഞ ശേഷം ആ ബാലൻ ഗുരുകുലത്തിൽ വസിച്ച് ഗുരുശുശ്രൂഷ ചെയ്തു; ഭിക്ഷയാൽ ലഭിച്ച അന്നം മാത്രമേ ഭക്ഷിച്ചിരുന്നുള്ളു।
