ബ്രഹ്മശാപത്താൽ ദഗ്ധരായ എല്ലാവരുടെയും ഉദ്ധാരത്തിനായി ആ രാജർഷിശ്രേഷ്ഠൻ മഹത്തായ തപസ്സാൽ ത്രിവർത്ത്മഗാമിനിയായ ഗംഗയെ ഭൂമിയിലേക്കു അവതരിപ്പിച്ചു.
