उत्तरांश्च कुरून्प्राप चरंती नीरसंतृणम् । व्युत्तेपे च तपस्तीव्रं पतिमाधाय चेतसि । तपोबलेन तत्पत्युः सहिष्ये तेज इत्यलम्

uttarāṃśca kurūnprāpa caraṃtī nīrasaṃtṛṇam | vyuttepe ca tapastīvraṃ patimādhāya cetasi | tapobalena tatpatyuḥ sahiṣye teja ityalam

അവൾ ഉത്തരകുരുദേശത്തെത്തി, ജലമില്ലാത്ത പുല്ലിൽ സഞ്ചരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു. മനസ്സിൽ പതിദേവനെ സ്ഥാപിച്ച് അവൾ ഘോരതപസ്സ് ആരംഭിച്ചു; ‘തപോബലത്തോടെ ആ ഭർത്താവിന്റെ തേജസ് ഞാൻ സഹിക്കും—മതി!’ എന്നു നിശ്ചയിച്ചു।
