ātmanānuṣṭhitenāpi vratena na hi duṣkṛtiḥ | parāvasostava bhrāturato naivāsti niṣkṛtiḥ
Tridaśāḥ (the gods)
Tirtha: Setukṣetra
Type: kshetra
Scene: The devas, with compassionate firmness, state that even a personally performed vow cannot undo the deed; Arvāvasu appears shaken, hands still folded, eyes moist.
Not all wrongdoing is neutralized by personal vows; Purāṇic narratives often direct seekers toward higher grace through tīrtha and divine ordinance.
The Setu-region tīrthas are the implied remedy; the named tīrtha appears shortly after.
Vrata (vow-observance) is referenced but declared ineffective for this particular grave fault.
