Skanda Purana — Brahma Khanda, Shloka 82

शतशोऽपि तथा स्नाता न शुद्धा भावदूषिताः । अंतःकरणशुद्धांश्च तान्विभूतिः पवित्रयेत्

śataśo'pi tathā snātā na śuddhā bhāvadūṣitāḥ | aṃtaḥkaraṇaśuddhāṃśca tānvibhūtiḥ pavitrayet

അങ്ങനെ നൂറുകണക്കിന് തവണ സ്നാനം ചെയ്താലും ഭാവം മലിനമായവർ ശുദ്ധരാകുന്നില്ല. എന്നാൽ അന്തഃകരണം ശുദ്ധമായവരെ വിഭൂതി (പവിത്ര ഭസ്മം) പാവനമാക്കുന്നു.
