नारद उवाच । अष्टादशसहस्रास्ते ब्राह्मणा वेदपारगाः । कथं ते व्यभजन्ग्रामान्द्रामो त्पन्नं तथा वसु । वस्त्राद्यं भूषणाद्यं च तन्मे कथय सुव्र तम्

nārada uvāca | aṣṭādaśasahasrāste brāhmaṇā vedapāragāḥ | kathaṃ te vyabhajangrāmāndrāmo tpannaṃ tathā vasu | vastrādyaṃ bhūṣaṇādyaṃ ca tanme kathaya suvra tam

നാരദൻ പറഞ്ഞു—ആ പതിനെട്ടായിരം ബ്രാഹ്മണർ വേദപാരംഗതരായിരുന്നു. അവർ ഗ്രാമങ്ങളും രാമനിൽ നിന്നു ഉദ്ഭവിച്ച ധനവും എങ്ങനെ വിഭജിച്ചു? വസ്ത്രാദിയും ഭൂഷണാദിയും എങ്ങനെ വിതരണം ചെയ്തു? ഹേ സുവ്രത, അത് എനിക്ക് പറയുക।
