itthaṃ niśamya māhātmyaṃ bhasmano brahmarākṣasaḥ | vistareṇa punaḥ śrotu mautkaṃṭhyādityabhāṣata
Narrator; the brahmarākṣasa is the one who speaks within the verse
Tirtha: Bhasma-māhātmya (topic)
Type: kshetra
Scene: A brahmarākṣasa, humbled and eager, requests a fuller exposition of bhasma’s greatness from a yogin/sage; contrast between fearsome form and sincere devotion.
Spiritual transformation begins with śravaṇa (listening): even a fallen being seeks liberation by earnestly hearing sacred teachings.
No particular site is named in this verse; the emphasis is on the glory (māhātmya) of bhasma.
The implied practice is śravaṇa—hearing the māhātmya attentively as a step toward purification.
