अन्धक-प्रश्नः — Inquiry into Andhaka
Genealogy and Nature
नारद उवाच । शंखचूडवधं श्रुत्वा चरितं शशिमौलिनः । अयं तृप्तोऽस्मि नो त्वत्तोऽमृतं पीत्वा यथा जनः
nārada uvāca | śaṃkhacūḍavadhaṃ śrutvā caritaṃ śaśimaulinaḥ | ayaṃ tṛpto'smi no tvatto'mṛtaṃ pītvā yathā janaḥ
Narada
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Sthala Purana: Not tied to a Jyotirliṅga; it is a listener’s response (Nārada) to the kathā of Śiva’s victory over Śaṅkhacūḍa.
Significance: Models ideal śravaṇa-bhakti: hearing Śiva’s līlā produces tṛpti (inner satiation), a hallmark of grace-oriented devotion.
Type: stotra
Role: nurturing
It teaches that śravaṇa (devotional listening) of Lord Śiva’s līlā is itself nectar—bringing inner contentment, purification of the mind, and strengthening bhakti that leads toward liberation.
By praising the “Moon-crested Lord,” the verse emphasizes Saguna Śiva—His accessible, grace-filled form and deeds. Such hearing naturally ripens into reverence for Śiva’s presence in the Liṅga, where devotees worship the same Lord who acts in the Purāṇic narratives.
Regular śravaṇa and pāṭha (listening/recitation) of Śiva Purāṇa episodes with remembrance of Śiva—optionally paired with japa of the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—is the practical takeaway for cultivating steady devotion.
