It contrasts worldly panic and flight with the Shaiva ideal of śānti—an ascetic rooted in mauna and tapas—hinting that refuge is found in inner steadiness and dharma rather than fear.
Though the Liṅga is not named here, the tranquil tapasvin embodies Saguna Shiva’s qualities—peace, restraint, and yogic composure—showing that devotion expresses itself as disciplined conduct aligned with Shiva.
Mauna (vow of silence) and tapas (austerity) are implied; a practical takeaway is observing a period of silence with japa of “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” cultivating calmness amid fear.
