Post–Dakṣa-Yajña Developments and the Appeal to Viṣṇu
iti śrīśivamahāpurāṇe dvitīyāyāṃ rudrasaṃhitāyāṃ dvitīye satīkhaṃḍe śivadarśanavarṇanaṃ nāma catvāriṃśodhyāyaḥ
Sūta Gosvāmin (traditional Purāṇic colophon style, narrating to the sages of Naimiṣāraṇya)
This is a concluding colophon that seals the chapter’s teaching: Śiva’s darśana is presented as a grace-bearing revelation, affirming that devotional encounter with Pati (Śiva) is central to liberation-oriented Shaiva practice.
By naming the chapter “Śiva-darśana-varṇana,” it frames Śiva as approachable through saguna manifestation and divine appearance; in Shaiva Siddhānta, such darśana supports devotion that culminates in the Lord’s grace, often expressed through Liṅga-worship and mantra.
While the line itself is a colophon, the chapter-title implies darśana-oriented devotion: steady worship (pūjā) of Śiva—commonly via Liṅga, pañcākṣarī japa (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), and purity disciplines like bhasma/tripuṇḍra—aimed at receiving Śiva’s grace.
