Viṣṇu’s Hymn and the Petition for Śiva–Satī’s Protection
jagatpitā maheśa tvaṃ jaganmātā satī matā | haribrahmādayassarve tava dāsāssuraprabho
Satī (addressing Lord Śiva)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Type: stotra
Shakti Form: Satī
Role: creative
It affirms Śiva as the supreme Pati (Lord) and source of cosmic order, with Satī as Śakti—the universal Mother—highlighting that even the highest deities function under Śiva’s sovereignty in the Shaiva vision.
By praising Maheśa as Jagatpitā and Suraprabhu, the verse supports Saguna worship—approaching Śiva as the personal Lord who receives devotion through the Liṅga and grants grace, while remaining the supreme reality behind all gods.
A practical takeaway is humble bhakti: recite the Pañcākṣarī mantra ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya") while offering water and bilva to the Śiva-liṅga, contemplating Śiva as the universal Father and Satī/Śakti as the universal Mother.
