Menā’s Counsel to Himālaya; Response to Slander of Śiva
ऋषय ऊचुः । पुण्यवन्तो वयं धन्या दृष्ट्वैतद्धिमव त्पुरम् । यस्मादेवंविधे कार्य्ये शिवेनैव नियोजिताः
ṛṣaya ūcuḥ | puṇyavanto vayaṃ dhanyā dṛṣṭvaitaddhimava tpuram | yasmādevaṃvidhe kāryye śivenaiva niyojitāḥ
ഋഷിമാർ പറഞ്ഞു—ഹിമവാന്റെ ഈ പുരി ഞങ്ങൾ ദർശിച്ചതിനാൽ ഞങ്ങൾ പുണ്യവാന്മാരും ധന്യന്മാരുമാണ്; കാരണം ഇത്തരമൊരു പവിത്ര കര്മ്മത്തിൽ ഞങ്ങളെ സ്വയം ശ്രീശിവൻ തന്നെയാണ് നിയോഗിച്ചത്.
The sages (ṛṣis)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Significance: Darśana of the Himavat-abode and being ‘appointed by Śiva’ is framed as bhāgya and puṇya, implying eligibility (adhikāra) for sacred service and eventual Śiva-anugraha.
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: liberating
It highlights Shiva’s anugraha (grace): the sages recognize their fortune not as personal achievement alone, but as the fruit of merit culminating in direct divine commissioning for a sacred purpose.
By stressing “appointed by Shiva Himself,” the verse points to Saguna Shiva as the active Lord (Pati) who guides devotees and sages in dharmic works—worship and service become effective when aligned with His will.
The takeaway is seva with remembrance of Shiva’s command—performing one’s duty while mentally offering actions to Shiva, supported by japa of the Panchakshara mantra (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) as an inner orientation.
