Role: liberating
It diagnoses bondage as a mistake of cognition: attributing pleasure–pain to “others” and claiming independent doership. In Shaiva Siddhanta, liberation begins when this false knowing is replaced by right understanding of Pati (Shiva) as the supreme Lord and the soul’s dependence on His grace.
Linga-worship trains the devotee to surrender doership and outcomes to Shiva, the inner ruler. By offering actions and their fruits to Saguna Shiva, the devotee weakens egoic agency and sees Shiva as the true Lord behind experience.
Practice offering (arpana) with the Panchakshara—mentally repeat “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” and dedicate all actions and their results to Shiva, cultivating non-doership and acceptance of pleasure–pain as occasions for devotion.
