Episode of Obstacles to Gautama; Gaṇeśa’s Appearing Through Misguided Worship
सूत उवाच । इत्युक्त्वा ते च तं सर्वे पाषाणैस्समताडयन् । व्यथां ददुरतीवास्मै त्वहल्यां च दुरुक्तिभिः
sūta uvāca | ityuktvā te ca taṃ sarve pāṣāṇaissamatāḍayan | vyathāṃ daduratīvāsmai tvahalyāṃ ca duruktibhiḥ
സൂതൻ പറഞ്ഞു—ഇങ്ങനെ പറഞ്ഞ ശേഷം അവർ എല്ലാവരും ചേർന്ന് അവനെ കല്ലുകളാൽ അടിച്ചു. അവനു അത്യന്തം വേദന നൽകി; അഹല്യയെയും കടുത്ത ദുർവചനങ്ങളാൽ പീഡിപ്പിച്ചു।

The verse highlights how violence and cruel speech deepen bondage (pāśa) through karma; from a Shaiva Siddhanta lens, such actions obscure the soul’s purity and delay the soul’s movement toward Shiva’s grace (anugraha).
Though not describing a ritual directly, it provides ethical groundwork for Shiva-bhakti: true approach to Saguna Shiva (Linga worship) is supported by ahiṃsā, restraint of speech, and compassion—qualities that make worship fit to receive Shiva’s prasāda.
A practical takeaway is vāk-śuddhi (purifying speech) with japa of the Pañcākṣarī—“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—and adopting non-injury as a vrata, as inner discipline that complements external worship like bhasma and rudrākṣa.
