Worship of Gajānana and the Procedure of Aupāsana-Homa
न ममेति वदेत्पश्चादुद्देशत्याग ईरितः । अतः परं विविद्यैति कपोतकायेति मन्त्रयोः
na mameti vadetpaścāduddeśatyāga īritaḥ | ataḥ paraṃ vividyaiti kapotakāyeti mantrayoḥ
അതിനുശേഷം ‘ന മമ’—അഥവാ ‘ഇത് എന്റേതല്ല’—എന്ന് ഉച്ചരിക്കണം; ഇതിനെ ഉദ്ദേശത്യാഗം (സ്വാമിത്വബോധത്യാഗം) എന്നു പറയുന്നു. തുടർന്ന് ‘കപോതകായ…’ എന്നാരംഭിക്കുന്ന രണ്ട് മന്ത്രങ്ങൾ ശരിയായി പഠിച്ച് പ്രയോഗിക്കണം.

It instructs the seeker to dissolve “mamatā” (the sense of ‘mine-ness’) by affirming “na mameti,” a key Shaiva discipline that loosens pāśa (bondage) and prepares the mind for mantra-sādhana leading toward Shiva-realization.
Linga-worship is not only external offering but inner surrender; saying “not mine” converts ritual into true devotion by offering the ego’s ownership back to Pati (Shiva), the Lord of all, making Saguna worship a doorway to higher knowledge.
A practice of verbal and mental renunciation—repeating “na mameti” before further mantra-recitation—followed by learning and applying the prescribed pair of mantras (“kapotakāya…”), indicating a sequential discipline: tyāga first, mantra next.
