Vāmadeva-mata: Rahasya-upadeśa
The Esoteric Teaching of Vāmadeva’s Doctrine
svāmyekaḥ sarbvajantūnāṃ pāśacchedakaro guruḥ | atastvatkṛpayā so'rthaḥ śrotavyo hi mayā guro
A disciple/devotee addressing Lord Shiva as the supreme Guru (Pati) in the Kailasha Samhita discourse
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Role: liberating
It declares Shiva as Pati—the one Lord and Guru of all beings—whose grace alone cuts pāśa (bondage such as karma, mala/impurity, and ignorance), making true liberation possible through receiving His teaching.
Seeing Shiva as the living Guru supports Saguna worship—especially Linga-upāsanā—where devotion, surrender, and listening to Shiva’s doctrine become the means by which the bound soul approaches the transcendent Pati.
The key practice is śravaṇa (reverent listening) with surrender to Shiva-as-Guru; it is naturally supported by daily japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and disciplined worship that cultivates grace and inner detachment from bonds.
