Description of the Pushpaka Vimana and Ravana’s Inner Palace
व्यावृत्ततिलकाः काश्चित्काश्चिदुद्भ्रन्तनूपुराः।पार्श्वे गलितहाराश्च काश्चित्परमयोषितः।।5.9.46।।
vyāvṛtta-tilakāḥ kāścit kāścid udbhrānta-nūpurāḥ | pārśve galita-hārāś ca kāścit parama-yoṣitaḥ || 5.9.46 ||
ചിലരുടെ ലലാടത്തിലെ തിലകം മങ്ങിയിരുന്നു; ചിലരുടെ നൂപുരങ്ങൾ ഇളകിപ്പോയിരുന്നു; ചില മഹതിയായ സ്ത്രീകളുടെ ഹാരങ്ങൾ ഒരു വശത്തേക്ക് വഴുതിയിരുന്നു.
A few young women had their circular vermilion mark (on the forehead) smudged, some had their anklets loosened and a few had their necklaces.
The verse serves as a narrative mirror: when inner discipline wanes, outer order also collapses; Dharma emphasizes inner regulation (indriya-nigraha) as the basis of dignity.
Continuing his survey, Hanumān notices physical signs of disorder—smudged tilaka, loosened anklets, and displaced necklaces—on sleeping women.
Hanumān’s careful observation (viveka): he gathers details without violating propriety, maintaining maryādā in conduct.
