सुन्दरकाण्डे अष्टपञ्चाशः सर्गः
हनुमद्वृत्तान्तकथनम्, सीताभिज्ञान-प्रदानम्, लङ्कादाह-वर्णनम्
इति शोकसमाविष्टश्चिन्तामहमुपागतः।।5.58.158।।अथाहं वाचमश्रौषं चारणानां शुभाक्षराम्।जानकी न च दग्धेति विस्मयोदन्तभाषिणाम्।।5.58.159।।
iti śoka-samāviṣṭaś cintām aham upāgataḥ |
athāhaṃ vācam aśrauṣaṃ cāraṇānāṃ śubhākṣarām |
jānakī na ca dagdheti vismayodanta-bhāṣiṇām ||
ഇങ്ങനെ ശോകത്തിൽ മുങ്ങി ഞാൻ ചിന്തയിൽ പതിഞ്ഞിരുന്നു; അപ്പോൾ ചാരണന്മാരുടെ ശുഭാക്ഷരങ്ങളുള്ള വാക്കുകൾ ഞാൻ കേട്ടു—അത്ഭുതവാർത്തയായി “ജാനകി ദഗ്ധയായിട്ടില്ല” എന്നു പ്രസ്താവിച്ചു.
