Commencement and Performance of Daśaratha’s Aśvamedha

मणिरत्नं सुवर्णं वा गावो यद्वा समुद्यतम्।तत्प्रयच्छ नरश्रेष्ठ धरण्या न प्रयोजनम्।।।।

Transliteration

maṇiratnaṃ suvarṇaṃ vā gāvo yadvā samudyatam |

tat prayaccha naraśreṣṭha dharaṇyā na prayojanam ||

Translation

“ഹേ നരശ്രേഷ്ഠ, ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് മണിരത്നങ്ങളോ, സ്വർണമോ, അല്ലെങ്കിൽ പശുക്കളോ—സന്നദ്ധമായി ലഭ്യമാകുന്നതെന്തായാലും നൽകുക; ധരണി ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് ആവശ്യമില്ല.”
