Rāma’s Lament in Separation from Sītā
hā mamārye kva yātāsi hā sādhvi varavarṇini || 3.62.10 || hā sakāmā tvayā devī kaikeyī sā bhaviṣyati |
Alas, my noble lady, where have you gone? O chaste lady of excellent complexion, that queen Kaikeyi's desire will be fulfilled now.
The verse reflects dharmic awareness of consequences: personal tragedy is seen in relation to wider moral and political outcomes—Rāma recognizes how Sītā’s loss intersects with Kaikeyī’s earlier aims.
Rāma continues lamenting Sītā’s disappearance and, in anguish, links it to the fulfillment of Kaikeyī’s wish that led to his exile and suffering.
Rāma’s clarity of perception even in grief—he connects events and speaks candidly, while still honoring Sītā as noble and virtuous.
