शूर्पणखाया आगमनम्
Surpanakha Approaches Rama
सा तु शूर्पणखा नाम दशग्रीवस्य राक्षसः।भगिनी राममासाद्य ददर्श त्रिदशोपमम्।।।।
sā tu śūrpaṇakhā nāma daśagrīvasya rākṣasaḥ | bhaginī rāmam āsādya dadarśa tridaśopamam ||
അവൾ ശൂർപ്പണഖാ എന്ന പേരുള്ളവൾ, ദശഗ്രീവൻ എന്ന രാക്ഷസന്റെ സഹോദരി; രാമനെ സമീപിച്ച് അവൾ ദേവസമാനനായ അവനെ ദർശിച്ചു.
Honoured by the ascetics , Rama stayed there peacefully with brother Lakshmana,discussing diverse matters (from time to time).
The verse frames a dharmic contrast: divine-like virtue can provoke desire in the undisciplined; moral struggle often begins with distorted perception.
Śūrpaṇakhā, sister of Rāvaṇa, comes near and beholds Rāma, initiating the episode that leads toward conflict.
Rāma’s godlike presence—symbolizing inner order and restraint that stands in opposition to rākṣasī impulse.
