Aranyakanda 14
स तं पितृसखं बुद्ध्वा पूजयामास राघवः।स तस्य कुलमव्यग्रमथ पप्रच्छ नाम च।।3.14.4।।
sa taṃ pitṛsakhaṃ buddhvā pūjayāmāsa rāghavaḥ |
sa tasya kulam avyagram atha papraccha nāma ca || 3.14.4 ||
അവനെ പിതാവിന്റെ സുഹൃത്ത് എന്നു തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞ് രാഘവൻ ജടായുവിനെ ആദരിച്ചു; പിന്നെ വ്യഗ്രതയില്ലാത്ത ശാന്തചിത്തത്തോടെ ആ പക്ഷിയോട് അവന്റെ കുലവും പേരും ചോദിച്ചു.
Entresting the protection of Sita, the princess of Mithila, to that strong vulture, Jatayu, and accompanied by Lakshmana Rama went to Panchavati wishing to destroy the enemies like fire burning the moths.ityārṣē śrīmadrāmayaṇē vālmīkīya ādikāvyē araṇyakāṇḍē caturdaśassargaḥ৷৷Thus ends the fourteenth sarga of Aranyakanda of the holy Ramayana the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
Dharma here is reverence and gratitude: Rāma honors a senior who is connected to his father, showing that right conduct includes respect for relationships and elders.
In the forest, Rāma recognizes the vulture Jatāyu as Daśaratha’s friend and, after honoring him, asks his name and lineage.
Rāma’s humility and courtesy (vinaya): even in exile he maintains composed speech and respectful inquiry.
