Encounter with Jaṭāyu and the Genealogy of Beings
Aranyakanda 14
prajāpates tu dakṣasya babhūvur iti viśrutam | ṣaṣṭir duhitaraḥ rāma yaśasvinyo mahāyaśaḥ ||
O glorious Rama! it is well-known that Daksha, the creator had sixty daughters of great fame.
Dharma is linked with remembrance of cosmic lineage and order: genealogies situate beings within a moral universe where duties, relationships, and rightful conduct are intelligible.
During the encounter, Jaṭāyu begins recounting a well-known mythic genealogy connected to the origins of various beings.
Respect for traditional knowledge and truthful narration (satya in reporting what is ‘viśruta’—well-attested).
