Supremacy of Hari-Bhakti in Kali-yuga; Warnings on Sensual Attachment; Praise of Brāhmaṇas, Purāṇa-Listening, and Gaṅgā

इतीरयंति ये मर्त्या न तेषां निरये गतिः । ब्राह्मणा हि विशेषेण प्रत्यक्षं हरिरूपिणः

itīrayaṃti ye martyā na teṣāṃ niraye gatiḥ | brāhmaṇā hi viśeṣeṇa pratyakṣaṃ harirūpiṇaḥ

Unspecified (narratorial/continuing discourse within Svargakhaṇḍa 61)

Concept: Recitation of Viṣṇu-praise protects from hellish destiny; honoring brāhmaṇas is honoring Hari’s visible presence.

Application: Adopt a daily practice of reciting a short Viṣṇu-stotra; cultivate respectful conduct toward learned, ethical brāhmaṇas/teachers, seeing them as carriers of dharma rather than mere social labels.

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A split-scene composition: on one side, shadowy gates of Naraka recede and dissolve as luminous syllables of a Viṣṇu-stuti rise like golden birds. On the other, brāhmaṇas stand serene with a subtle Hari-aura behind them, suggesting ‘pratyakṣaṁ harirūpiṇaḥ’—Hari visibly present through dharmic embodiment.","primary_figures":["reciting devotees","brāhmaṇas (as dharma-bearers)","Hari’s subtle aura (symbolic)"],"setting":"Threshold between a dark underworld gate and a bright earthly courtyard near a small shrine.","lighting_mood":"divine radiance","color_palette":["charcoal black","smoldering crimson","sunlit gold","sandalwood beige","emerald green"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: Two-panel narrative—left: stylized Naraka gate in dark reds with fading flames; right: brāhmaṇas in white with gold borders, behind them a large golden halo suggesting Hari; embossed gold leaf on mantra-syllable motifs, ornate temple arch framing the righteous side.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: Gentle courtyard scene with brāhmaṇas and a devotee reciting; in the background, a distant dark ravine symbolizing Naraka dissolves into mist; delicate brushwork, restrained drama, cool-to-warm gradient palette, refined expressions of calm assurance.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: Strong contrast—dark underworld forms on one side, bright dharmic figures on the other; bold outlines, flat yet powerful color blocks, mantra glyphs as decorative bands, temple-wall narrative clarity.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: Central ring of golden mantra-syllables forming a protective mandala; at the bottom, devotees recite; at the top, brāhmaṇas stand beneath a stylized Viṣṇu aura; lotus borders and peacock motifs, deep blue and gold with red accents."}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"devotional","suggested_raga":"Durga","pace":"moderate-narrative","voice_tone":"authoritative","sound_elements":["conch shell (opening)","temple bells","low drone","brief silence after phala line"]}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: iti + īrayanti → itīrayanti; hari + rūpiṇaḥ → harirūpiṇaḥ.

FAQs

The verse states a phalaśruti: those who recite it are not destined for niraya (hell).

It teaches that brāhmaṇas should be honored as a visible embodiment of Hari—an ethical-theological rationale for reverence, service, and non-harm toward them.

Right speech (recitation/affirmation) and reverence toward brāhmaṇas are presented as protective dharmic acts with spiritual consequences.
