कृत्तिवासेश्वरस्यैव माहात्म्यं शृणु पार्थिव । तस्मिन्स्थाने पुरा दैत्यो हस्ती भूत्वा शिवांतिकम्

ഹേ രാജാവേ, കൃത്തിവാസേശ്വരന്റെ മഹാത്മ്യം ശ്രവിക്കൂ. പുരാതനകാലത്ത് അതേ സ്ഥലത്ത് ഒരു ദൈത്യൻ ആനയുടെ രൂപം ധരിച്ചു ശിവസന്നിധിയിലേക്കു വന്നു.
