FAQs

It emphasizes reverence and humility—treating a venerable woman as a mother according to dharma, and honoring spiritual merit gained through tapas (austerity) and puṇya (virtuous deeds).

It presents both as sources of spiritual authority: great austerity and diverse merits together justify the honor shown to the addressed woman.

Respect is not only based on biological relation; dharma recognizes moral and spiritual motherhood, and one should offer due honor to those endowed with discipline and virtue.
