Concept: Recognizing an unaccomplishing state, meditation gives rise to a higher, sāttvika condition oriented upward—toward clarity and liberation.

Application: When you see a habit or worldview not yielding inner freedom, deliberately ‘pivot upward’: add daily dhyāna, śāstra-reading, and service; reduce tamasic inputs.

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: shanta

FAQs

It literally means “upward-flowing current/stream,” indicating a movement or tendency that ascends—here associated with a sāttvika (pure, luminous) condition.

The verse explicitly labels the third arising condition as sāttvika and describes its upward movement, aligning spiritual ascent and refinement with sattva.

It suggests discernment in practice: if a state or approach does not lead to attainment (sādhana’s goal), one should move beyond it toward a higher, more sattva-oriented trajectory.
