FAQs

The Vālakhilyas are a class of small, austere sages frequently mentioned in Purāṇic and epic literature, often associated with intense tapas (ascetic power) and with divine/cosmic narratives.

Such verses function as catalogues of ṛṣi lineages and ascetic orders, highlighting the diversity of tapas traditions acknowledged within the Purāṇic worldview.

The verse underscores reverence for varied forms of disciplined spiritual practice, implying that multiple austerity-based paths and communities were recognized as legitimate within the broader dharmic tradition.
