Vātsyāyana

Concept: Right inquiry (praśna) motivated by compassion invites revelation of dharma and ‘wondrous’ sacred instruction.

Application: Ask precise questions of trustworthy teachers; let learning be guided by empathy and the wish to uplift others, not mere debate.

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: karuna

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"Vātsyāyana rises with folded hands amid the seated sages, his face bright with wonder and softened by compassion. The assembly pauses; Śeṣa’s many hoods form a protective canopy as the question hangs in the air like a bell’s resonance.","primary_figures":["Vātsyāyana","Śeṣa (Ananta)","assembled ṛṣis"],"setting":"Council hall within a jeweled cavern; manuscript bundles, kamandalu vessels, kusa mats.","lighting_mood":"temple lamp-lit","color_palette":["amber gold","smoky sandalwood brown","lapis blue","ivory","vermilion"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: Vātsyāyana standing in añjali-mudrā before Śeṣa, sages in semicircle, gold leaf highlighting the questioner’s halo and Śeṣa’s hoods, rich reds/greens, ornate pillars and arch, jewel-like detailing on ritual vessels.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: intimate moment of inquiry—Vātsyāyana’s gentle expression, fine linework on beards and textiles, cool blues and soft ochres, delicate cavern flora motifs, lyrical stillness in the assembly.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: stylized Vātsyāyana with expressive eyes and bold outlines, Śeṣa’s hoods patterned with rhythmic scales, warm red/yellow/green pigments, temple-wall composition with symmetrical sage rows.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: central figure of the questioner framed by lotus borders, decorative script-like motifs suggesting sacred speech, deep blue ground with gold accents, peacocks and floral vines at corners."}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"narrative","suggested_raga":"Desh","pace":"moderate-narrative","voice_tone":"reverent-soft","sound_elements":["assembly hush","single bell strike","tanpura drone","soft conch (very distant)","flutter of palm leaves"]}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: तत्रासीत् = तत्र + आसीत्; कथितमद्भुतम् = कथितम् + अद्भुतम्; कारुण्यात्किमुताब्रुवन् = कारुण्यात् + किम् + उत + अब्रुवन्

FAQs

He asks what dharma-teaching was discussed there, what marvelous account was narrated, and what the holy ones said out of compassion for all beings.

Compassion (kāruṇya) is highlighted as the motive behind the sages’ instruction—teaching meant for the welfare of all.

It functions mainly as a narrative prompt within a dialogue, introducing forthcoming teachings or an account concerning dharma and a wondrous event.
