Unspecified narrator (speaker not identifiable from this single verse alone)

Concept: Truthful narration of one’s plight, met with proper questioning, becomes the basis for prescribing a vrata as a dharmic remedy.

Application: When seeking help, state facts honestly; when advising, listen fully before prescribing practices—then follow through with a clear, doable vow.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: karuna

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"The narrator stands close, palms slightly open in a gesture of careful questioning, while the woman recounts her story with trembling honesty. The air shifts from raw grief to focused clarity, as if a ritual path is about to be revealed.","primary_figures":["narrator/teacher figure","vaiśya woman"],"setting":"courtyard near the house threshold, a low stool or kusa mat suggesting an impromptu teaching space","lighting_mood":"temple lamp-lit","color_palette":["warm amber","sandalwood beige","deep maroon","smoky blue","brass gold"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: teacher figure seated on a small platform with gold-leaf halo, right hand in upadeśa-mudrā; the woman kneels with folded hands, speaking truthfully; ornate borders, rich reds/greens, embossed gold on jewelry and lamp flames, traditional South Indian compositional balance.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: intimate dialogue in a small courtyard, delicate facial expressions, soft pastel garments; a thin stream of incense smoke curls upward; cool shadows and fine floral details, lyrical realism in posture and gaze.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: bold outlines, expressive eyes; the teacher’s hand raised in instruction, the woman’s hands in añjali; warm yellow-red background with green foliage bands, mural-like flat perspective and rhythmic ornamentation.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: dialogue framed by lotus creepers and floral borders; a small lamp and kalasha motifs foreshadow vrata; deep indigo ground with gold highlights, peacocks at the corners, intricate textile patterns on clothing."}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"narrative","suggested_raga":"Yaman","pace":"moderate-narrative","voice_tone":"authoritative","sound_elements":["low murmured dialogue","incense crackle","soft bell","evening hush"]}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: अपृच्छं (अपृच्छम्); सर्ववृत्तांतं → सर्ववृत्तान्तम्; व्रतवरमुपदेशं → व्रतवरम् + उपदेशम्; ददाम्यहम् → ददामि + अहम्

FAQs

It serves as a transition: after confirming that the story was heard truthfully, the speaker announces the forthcoming instruction on a specific, superior religious vow (vrata).

Vṛttānta indicates the full sequence of events or complete narrative background, suggesting that the vow-teaching is grounded in a prior account rather than given in isolation.

It highlights the value of truthful transmission of sacred narratives: accurate listening and reporting are presented as the proper foundation for receiving and teaching dharmic practices like vratas.
