Mātali

Concept: Cosmic knowledge is to be spoken ‘yoga-yukta’—disciplined, integrated—because the worlds and their enjoyments are karmically earned through tapas.

Application: Pursue disciplined practice (daily japa, restraint, study) so that knowledge and speech become ‘yoga-yukta’—accurate, beneficial, and non-scattering.

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: shanta

FAQs

Mātali is the speaker; in Purāṇic literature he is widely known as Indra’s charioteer, and here he introduces a description of the gods’ world-order.

It means the ordered structure or arrangement of the divine worlds (deva-lokas)—their organization, layout, and the way they are constituted.

The verse links higher states/worlds with disciplined practice: yogic integration (yoga-yukta) and austerity (tapas) are presented as the means by which such exalted realms and their enjoyments are attained.
