Mārkaṇḍeya-varṇanam
The Description of Mārkaṇḍeya
punaryugāntaparyyantaṃ dharmmaṃ sarvaṃ samācaran | manmūrtidhyānanirataḥ paraṃ nirvāṇamāpsyasi || 78 ||
Vishnu (the Lord speaking as 'I')
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It presents a twofold soteriology: sustained dharma (right conduct) through life and unwavering meditation on the Lord’s form, culminating in para-nirvāṇa—final liberation beyond worldly bondage.
Bhakti is expressed as continuous man-mūrti-dhyāna—loving, focused contemplation of the Lord’s personal form—shown here as the direct inner discipline that ripens dharma into moksha.
No specific Vedāṅga technique is taught in this verse; the practical takeaway is disciplined daily adherence to dharma (ācāra) supported by steady dhyāna, which is the applied method emphasized.
