ऋचो यजूंषि सामानि मन्त्राश्चाथर्वणास्तु ये सप्तर्षिभिश्च ये प्रोक्ताः स्मार्तं तु मनुरब्रवीत् //

ṛco yajūṃṣi sāmāni mantrāścātharvaṇāstu ye saptarṣibhiśca ye proktāḥ smārtaṃ tu manurabravīt //

ഋഗ്വേദത്തിലെ ഋചകൾ, യജുര്വേദത്തിലെ യജൂംഷികൾ, സാമവേദത്തിലെ സാമഗാനങ്ങൾ, അതർവണ മന്ത്രങ്ങൾ—സപ്തർഷികൾ പ്രസ്താവിച്ച ഉപദേശങ്ങളോടുകൂടി—ഇവയെല്ലാം സ്മാർത്തധർമ്മത്തിന്റെ പ്രാമാണിക പരമ്പരയെന്ന് മനു പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു.
