मार्कण्डेय उवाच तेनैवं व्याहृते शापे रेवत्यृक्षं पपात ह ।
पश्यतः सर्वलोकस्य विस्मयाविष्टचेतसः ॥

മാർകണ്ഡേയൻ പറഞ്ഞു—അങ്ങനെ ശാപം ഉച്ചരിക്കപ്പെട്ടപ്പോൾ, എല്ലാവരും നോക്കിനിൽക്കെ രേവതി-ഋക്ഷം (കരടി) പതിച്ചു; ജനങ്ങളുടെ മനസ്സുകൾ വിസ്മയത്തിൽ മുങ്ങി.
