തെക്കിൽ കൈലാസവും ഹിമവാനും എന്ന രണ്ട് മഹാപർവതങ്ങളുണ്ട്. ഇവ കിഴക്കിൽ നിന്ന് പടിഞ്ഞാറുവരെ വ്യാപിച്ച് വർണ-പ്രദേശങ്ങളുടെ മദ്ധ്യേ ഇടനില വിഭജനമായി നിലകൊള്ളുന്നു.
