Adhyaya 49 — Primordial Human Creation, the Rise of Desire, and the Origins of Settlements, Measures, and Agriculture

Sanskrit

आयुषोऽन्ते प्रसूयन्ते मिथुनान्येव ताः सकृत् ।

ततः प्रभृति कल्पेऽस्मिन् मिथुनानां हि सम्भवः ॥

Transliteration

āyuṣo 'nte prasūyante mithunāny eva tāḥ sakṛt |

tataḥ prabhṛti kalpe 'smin mithunānāṃ hi sambhavaḥ ||

Translation

ആയുസ്സിന്റെ അവസാനം ആ സ്ത്രീകൾ പ്രസവിച്ചു—ഒരിക്കൽ മാത്രം—അതും ജോടികളെയേ. അന്നുമുതൽ ഈ കല്പത്തിൽ ജോടി-ജനനം സ്ഥിരമായി സ്ഥാപിതമായി.
