Adhyaya 47Brahma’s Awakening and the Ninefold Scheme of Creation

यस्मादर्वाग् व्यवर्तन्त ततोऽर्वाक्‍स्रोतसस्तु ते ।

ते च प्रकाशबहुलास्तमोद्रिक्ता रजो ’धिकाः ॥

yasmād arvāg vyavartanta tato 'rvākstrotasas tu te /

te ca prakāśabahulās tamodriktā rajo 'dhikāḥ ||

അവർ താഴോട്ടു പ്രവഹിച്ചതിനാൽ ‘അർവാക്‌സ്രോതസ്’ എന്നു വിളിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. അവർ തേജസ്സിൽ സമൃദ്ധരാണ്; എങ്കിലും തമസ്സ് വർധിക്കുകയും രജസ്സിന് പ്രാധാന്യം ഉണ്ടാകുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.

The human condition is mixed: sufficient light for discernment, yet strong rajas (restlessness) and tamas (inertia). Ethics and spiritual discipline are therefore necessary to steer this mixed constitution.
