Adhyaya 26Madālasa Names Alarka and Reorients Him Toward Kshatriya Duty

तृतीयं तनयं जातं स राजा शत्रुमर्दनम् ।

यदाह तेन सा सुभ्रूर्जहासातिचिरं पुनः ॥

tṛtīyaṃ tanayaṃ jātaṃ sa rājā śatrumardanam / yadāha tena sā subhrūr jahāsāticiraṃ punaḥ

മൂന്നാമത്തെ പുത്രൻ ജനിച്ചപ്പോൾ രാജാവ് അവന് “ശത്രുമർദനൻ” എന്നു നാമകരണം ചെയ്തു. അങ്ങനെ പറഞ്ഞതുമാത്രത്തിൽ സുന്ദരഭ്രൂവളയമുള്ള റാണി വീണ്ടും ദീർഘനേരം ചിരിച്ചു.

The repeated laughter signals Madālasa’s distance from conventional royal pride. Names celebrating conquest are treated as shallow when measured against the higher aim of self-knowledge and freedom from attachment.
