Educational Q&A

The verse highlights ethical kingship: legitimate authority is not merely land, but also the instruments of governance—justice/force (daṇḍa), treasury (kośa), and civic order (pura). Virāṭa’s willing transfer underscores gratitude, recognition of dharmic merit, and the moral basis of political alliance.

After the Pandavas are revealed and honored, King Virāṭa—overjoyed—meets and reaches an understanding with them, and formally entrusts the whole kingdom (including administrative power, treasury, and capital) to Yudhiṣṭhira, signaling submission, alliance, and respect.
