Shloka 5

विसर्जयामास तदा द्विजांश्व॒ प्रकृतीस्तथा । तथा स राजा मत्स्यानां विराटो वाहिनीपति:,तदनन्तर मत्स्यदेशके राजा सेनाओंके स्वामी विराटने ब्राह्मणों तथा प्रजावर्गके लोगोंको विदा कर दिया और (अन्तःपुरमें जाकर) उत्तरके विषयमें पूछा--'राजकुमार उत्तर कहाँ गये हैं?” तब घरमें रहनेवाली स्त्रियों और कन्याओंने उनसे सब बातें बनायीं --

vaiśampāyana uvāca |

visarjayāmāsa tadā dvijān sva-prakṛtīs tathā |

tathā sa rājā matsyānāṁ virāṭo vāhinīpatiḥ ||

അപ്പോൾ മത്സ്യദേശത്തിന്റെ സൈന്യാധിപനായ രാജാവ് വിരാടൻ ബ്രാഹ്മണന്മാരെയും പ്രജകളെയും വിടയാക്കി. തുടർന്ന് അകത്തേക്ക് ചെന്നു ഉത്തരനെക്കുറിച്ച് ചോദിച്ചു—“രാജകുമാരൻ ഉത്തരൻ എവിടെ പോയി?” അപ്പോൾ അന്തഃപുരത്തിലെ സ്ത്രീകളും കന്യകകളും സംഭവിച്ചതെല്ലാം പറഞ്ഞു।
