ततस्ते कुरव: सर्वे साधु साध्विति चाब्रुवन् । दुष्करं कृतवान् भीष्मो यदर्जुनमयोधयत्,उस समय समस्त कौरव साधुवाद देते हुए बोल उठे--“अहो! भीष्मजीने यह दुष्कर पराक्रम किया, जो कि अर्जुनके साथ युद्ध किया"
tatas te kuravaḥ sarve sādhu sādhv iti cābruvan | duṣkaraṃ kṛtavān bhīṣmo yad arjunam ayodhayat ||
അപ്പോൾ എല്ലാ കൗരവരും “സാധു! സാധു!” എന്നു വിളിച്ചുയർത്തി. അവർ പറഞ്ഞു—“അഹോ! ഭീഷ്മൻ അർജുനനോടു യുദ്ധം ചെയ്തതു എത്ര ദുഷ്കരമായ പരാക്രമം!”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the social-ethical valuation of steadfast courage: undertaking a hard duty—especially confronting a powerful opponent—is praised as a mark of kṣatriya conduct and resolve, regardless of the danger involved.
After Bhīṣma engages Arjuna in combat, the assembled Kurus applaud, repeatedly saying “Well done,” and remark that it was a difficult achievement to have fought with Arjuna.
