Dhaumya’s Counsel on Incognito Conduct in a Royal Household

amātyo hi balād bhoktuṁ rājānaṁ prārthayet yaḥ | na sa tiṣṭhec ciraṁ sthānaṁ gacchec ca prāṇasaṁśayam ||

Educational Q&A

A minister must serve through counsel and loyalty, not coercion. Attempting to dominate the king by force is adharma and leads to loss of office and even mortal danger.

Dhaumya delivers a moral-political warning within the Virata Parva context: he cautions against a counsellor’s overreach, stressing that usurping or controlling the ruler through force brings swift downfall.
