Adhyāya 73: Damayantī’s Investigation of Bāhuka
Keśinī’s Observations
ततो मध्यमकक्षायां ददर्श रथमास्थितम् । ऋतुपर्ण महीपालं सहवाष्णेयबाहुकम्,वहाँसे उसने देखा, वार्ष्णेय और बाहुकके साथ रथपर बैठे हुए महाराज ऋतुपर्ण मध्यम कक्षा (परकोटे)-में पहुँच गये हैं
tato madhyamakakṣāyāṃ dadarśa ratham āsthitam | ṛtuparṇaṃ mahīpālaṃ sahavārṣṇeyabāhukam ||
അപ്പോൾ അവൾ മധ്യപ്രാകാരത്തിൽ രഥാരൂഢനായ ഭൂപാലൻ ഋതുപർണനെ കണ്ടു; കൂടെ വാർഷ്ണേയനും ബാഹുകനും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു।
बृहदश्चव उवाच
The verse highlights how rightful aims are often advanced through orderly conduct and trusted companionship under legitimate authority—suggesting that dharmic outcomes may depend on discretion, timing, and the support of reliable allies.
The narrator reports that King Ṛtuparṇa, seated on a chariot and accompanied by Vārṣṇeya and Bāhuka, has reached the middle enclosure of the fortifications, marking their arrival and progress into an inner area.
